The USACUA has instituted a very rigorous training procedure for its members that would require a minimum of 3 years (typically 4 years) to get fully qualified as an umpire.

This process involves up to 70 hours – and a minimum of 60 hours, depending on the effect of weather and other unexpected circumstances – of in-class training. This training will be imparted during predetermined sessions (or seminars) during the Fall or Winter season.

There shall be a minimum attendance requirement of 75% in order for members to qualify as candidates for a subsequent examination.

Some level of regional training and/or on-line training is also available. On-line training also requires at least a few in-class training to complete the course before appearing for a subsequent examination.
