Umpire Ivor Stephens to be inducted in USA Cricket Hall of Fame

United States of America Cricket Umpires Association Inc. ‘s (USACUA) own Umpire, Ivor Stephens, will be inducted in the United States of America Cricket Hall of Fame on October 2, 20101. Umpire Stephens will be one of six new inductees to receive this prestigious honor, and will join four other USACUA members in the Hall of Fame.

Umpire Stephens was born in Jamaica, and started, developed and perfected his skills doing matches at the highest levels in his country. He migrated to the United States of America and was a founding member of USACUA who has helped to form the now national association in this country.

He has given much to the game of cricket and has contributed yeomanly to the training and certification of umpires in the USA.  Known among his peers as the most “well dressed umpire” to grace the field, Umpire Stephens is a sharp witted, but a no nonsense arbitrator on the field of play. He is not afraid to net out discipline to players, and always command respect for the game.

Currently “semi retired  from active umpiring, he still share his knowledge with those who aspire to learn the craft of umpire.

ICC and MCC Release Updated “4th Edition” of the “Laws of Cricket – 2000 Code”

At its Special General Meeting in May, MCC Members approved the new Laws and as a result they will be introduced worldwide from 1st October 2010.

MCC (via the ICC) has asked various Umpires’ organizations, including the USACUA, to distribute the final versions to our membership.
The following are related documents:
a) A final version of the Laws in PDF.
b) A final version of the Laws with colour in PDF.
Yellow indicates incidental changes within the Laws generally.
Blue indicates an alteration in policy/Law.
c) An updated explanation of all Law changes.

Note: MCC anticipates having the new Law books printed and available by mid July.

WICUA Practical Assessment Form Released for 2010

The USACUA Training Committee has released the Assessment Form that shall be used to assess Candiates based on their Practical Exam, i.e., umpiring in 6 matches.

The Form can be downloaded here.

The above file has 6 copies of the same Assessment Form, one for each of the 6 Assessments, and hence, each Assessor.

Each Practical Exam candidate is expected to print out one such form and take it to the Assessor during each of the matches stipulated to be their Practical Assessments.
