The 2015 WICUA Convention hosted by the United States Cricket Umpires’ Association came to a close on Friday, 24th July culminating in a glittering standing-room only banquet at the New York Radisson Hotel near JFK International Airport.
The 27th Biennial Convention was a huge success according to the large contingent of umpires from the West Indian Islands in the Caribbean.
The next convention will be hosted by Jamaica and the announcement was met with a resounding applause.
Mr. Fitzroy Hayles thanked his Convention Organizing team, that included Mr. Nick Grant, Mr. Roan McFarlane, Mr. Mohammad S. Baksh and Ms. Petula Samuels, among others.
The WICUA President Mr. Cecil Fletcher also expressed his thanks to USACUA for providing an excellent platform for WICUA to discuss its agenda and address the order of business.
The elections returned largely the current elected officers, unopposed, with the exception of Area 3 Vice-President. Mr. Roger Davies will assume the role of Area 3 Vice-President replacing Mr. Goaland Greaves.
The Convention provided an avenue to discuss interesting umpiring topics and ideas from the convention delegates and observers.
Mr. Chambers from the USA Cricket Hall Of Fame was the keynote speaker. Mr. Nick Perry, Councilman and the PSAL Commissioner Mr. Bassett Thompson were also present at the gala.
The USACUA Secretary Mr. Baksh has announced that the Preliminary and Final Written Examinations offered by USACUA have been scheduled for Sunday April 19th 2015. All Training Officers are required to submit to the Secretary on or before April 5th 2015 the names and which examination the candidates in their Region would be sitting.
The USACUA General Body convened Sunday, Feb 15th, 2015 to conduct it regular business and also elect the new Executives for the 2015-16 session.
The election officers Mr. Clarence Modeste, Mr. Jay Singh and Mr. Wilton Ricketts laid out a smooth election process that was conducted fairly and efficiently. The following members were elected to their posts:

After the elections, all elected officers thanked the general body and spoke of working together to achieve the common goals of the umpires. The President Mr. Hayles released a statement urging the Members and the Executive to work together for the betterment of the Association.
Mr. Mohamed S. Baksh, who was elected unopposed as the Association Secretary, spoke of the urgency of working together. “Now that the election season is over, it is incumbent upon all of our members of USACUA to work together in unison and harmony to realize the objectives of our Association. We must as an unified body provide unconditional support to each other and to the endeavors of our Association.”, he said. The other Executives pledged to work to improving the Association’s image and strengthening the foundation of the Association.
A press release from the Executives read, “The new Executive Body will do everything within its authority to provide effective and efficient leadership to USACUA in an effort to promote amongst other things, the further advancement of the Association and development of each member. Members are hereby urged to provide support towards the hosting of the WICUA Convention which is scheduled to be held in New York in July 2015. Let us join hands to promote and develop USACUA together.”
